Account overview

You will receive a large number of personal identifiers and accounts that all do something different or enable you to do different things.

Here is an overview:

  • Matriculation number
    • A 7-digit, running number, e.g. 7012345
    • Is needed for exams, tuition fee, etc.
    • Is assigned to you when you start studying by the University
    • Can be found on your student ID
  • STiNE account (also "UHH account", "B account", "User account")
    • Consists of 3 letters (the first is a "B" which stands for "Benutzer" – German for "user") and 4 digits, e.g. BAM1234
    • Is needed for STiNE, WiFi (eduroam), Moodle, and E-Mail
    • You will get an E-Mail address with it that looks like this:
      firstname.lastname@studium.uni-hamburg.de
  • iRZ account (also "Informatics account")
    • Consists of a digit (last digit of year you started, 3 ≙ 2023) and the first 7 letters of your last name, e.g. 3surname. Should collisions occur, things like your first name might be considered.
    • Is needed for the computers at the Informatikum and to create an account for mafiasi.de (see below)
  • mafiasi account
    • Looks like the iRZ account ID (IRZ ≙ "Informatik Rechenzentrum"), but with one digit of the year more, e.g. 23surname
    • Is needed for all web services that are offered to you by the student body (more later)
