Video conferencing tools

As a rule of thumb, in video conferences, you should

  • generally keep your microphone muted unless you want to say something,
  • always have your audio output enabled and
  • have your webcam active (if possible).

Zoom

Zoom is a videoconference software used primarily for large lectures at the University of Hamburg.

You can access your personal UHH Zoom account via the SSO-Login option, choosing uni-hamburg.zoom.us as the company domain. After being forwarded to the standard UHH login website in your browser, log in using your STiNE credentials.

BigBlueButton (BBB)

BigBlueButton is another software for video conferences, like Zoom, which you can use directly in your browser. As opposed to Zoom, you do not need an account to use BBB. BBB is sometimes used for some classes with smaller groups of students at UHH.

You can test whether BigBlueButton is working for you right now. For this purpose, you can, for example, use the following test page provided by TU Dresden: test.bbb.tu-dresden.de (website in German).
